The New Year is less than 2 months away and that means New Year’s resolutions are fast approaching. But why wait until 2020 to make a promise to yourself to better your health? Let’s nourish our bodies and feel our best right now!
Here are some easy ways to stay energetic through the holidays, staying focused on our friends and family, rather than the food.
During the next couple of months, make an effort to nourish your body, staying mindful when it comes to eating. Whether you are having a regular meal at home or out for a celebration, fill half your plate with vegetables and split the other half between whole grains and lean proteins.
If you are choosing food from a buffet, do a “drive-by” first before loading food on to your plate. Look at all of the options and then choose only those that are truly appealing to you.
Eat only when you are hungry. Have a plan for non-food related ways that you can respond to stress, sadness, boredom. Think of ways to celebrate special occasions that are not centered on food.
Along with being aware of your food choices, incorporate physical activity or exercise into your daily routine. The holidays can be a very busy time of year so getting to the gym or going for a long walk may not be an option. If that’s the case, you can always sneak in extra steps throughout the day by parking in the farthest spot, taking the stairs rather than the elevator and taking small breaks throughout the day to go for short walks.
Plan ahead. Schedule an appointment with an Athens Nutrition dietitian/nutritionist so you can set your nutrition goals and be ready for an enjoyable and healthy holiday season!
