June Monthly Newsletter
How to nurture the new habits you’ve made and let go of the ones that don’t meet your health goals
Morsel of the Month
The weather is getting warmer in the Philadelphia area and some of us are starting to venture out of our homes again. As some of the restrictions put into place in March begin to lift, it is a good time to take stock of some of the new habits you may have formed over the past few months. While the spring has been hard on us, physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially, maybe you have found some pockets of joy and gratitude as well. Many people we have talked to have expressed gratitude for family meals. Without the constant schedule of sports and extracurricular activity, many families are meeting at the table for dinner to debrief and connect. Others have started planning meals for the first time, making a list to take to the grocery store and thinking about their week ahead. Still others have found that making their own breakfast and coffee is not too time-consuming and much cheaper than grabbing them on-to-go. Maybe you’ve found joy in an evening walk, feeling the breeze and listening to the birds, or maybe you’ve become a fan of a morning stretch. All of these healthy habits can continue even after the stay-at-home orders are lifted. Even as your life takes you out of the home, you can continue to prioritize some of the positive changes you may have made.
Maybe you’re thinking about some of the habits you’d like to leave behind, such as some stress snacking, increased alcohol intake or low physical activity. There’s no need to feel guilt or shame about how you reacted to a very stressful situation. If your coping techniques were ones you know are not serving your health goals, now is the time to start fresh.
