Start the School Year Right: Pack a healthy lunch with these back-to-school tips

September Monthly Newsletter

Morsel of the Month
The new school year is right around the corner. If the idea of packing your children’s daily lunches fills you with dread, we have some ideas to make your job easier by satisfying your kids’ tastes and your desire for nutritious meals. We love using bento boxes for packed lunches. It allows you to make sure your child gets a variety of food groups and allows your kid to decide how to combine them. For our picky eaters, it ensures different foods are not touching each other. (Former picky eaters, you know what I mean… ). Check out Athens dietitian Gretchen Skwer’s post for ideas on what to pack in your child’s bento box and some pictures of her girls’ lunches.

For our college students, living in a dorm does not mean you only have to rely on the dining hall or Uber Eats. If you stock your mini-fridge wisely, you can save money and eat well.

Recipe Highlight
We have so many back-to-school ideas, it’s hard to choose just one!
For customizable salads to please the whole family, make a salad bar in your fridge and try one of our favorite combinations.
For kid-pleasing after-school snacks, we love plain Greek yogurt with homemade granola or fresh fruit dipped in chocolate almond butter.
For early morning college classes, stock your fridge with nourishing chia pudding and grab a banana on your way out of the door.
For long study sessions, we suggest making one of our bites: chocolate peanutchocolate walnut, or this chocolate one with a sneaky ingredient! (We love chocolate!)
