Building Better Snacks: Create “better for you” snacks that will keep you well nourished and satisfied between meals.

Morsel of the Month
Many of us have a negative association with snacking. When we think of snacks, we tend to think of chips, pretzels, cookies and candy, all foods that we should work on decreasing in our healthy eating plan. However, snacks can provide a nourishing bridge from one meal to the next, and can help us fill in nutrient gaps throughout our day. The key to a better snack is to think of it as a “mini meal” and to create balance by including at least two different food groups. An ideal snack should be around 200 calories or less and should include a lean protein and/or a healthy fat, plus a good source of fiber. This will help to keep your blood sugar steady and keep you satisfied until your next meal. Want to know more? Check out our free Building Better Snacks tip sheet on our website.
